On the world wide web, things can move at a lightning-fast pace. In just a minute, you can probably read through and compose quite a few tweets and look at dozens of Facebook photos. That said, the Big Picture has put together a pair of infographics that show just how much happens online every 60 seconds.
The data is pretty impressive, according to the first infographic. On Facebook alone, each minute there are more than 695,000 new status updates, 79,364 wall posts, and 510,040 comments. With 800 million users and counting and a massive new data center planned for Sweden, that huge volume of posts will only grow.
Interestingly enough, there are 694,445 Google search queries made each minute, about the same as the number of posted Facebook status updates.
Despite messaging on many other mediums like SMS, Facebook messages, and Twitter, email is not dead. The graphic said that every 60 seconds, a whopping 168 million emails are sent.
The 'net is also an entertainment medium with more than 600 videos uploaded to YouTube, 1,500 blog posts added, and 13,000 iPhone apps downloaded each minute.
Social networking is undoubtedly a huge part of the Internet, and Twitter is a major player, with more than 320,000 new Twitter users added and 98,000 tweets sent each minute.
The second infographic focuses primarily on the millions of dollars of transactions carried out online. Every 60 seconds, 81 iPads, 18 Kindle Fire tablets, and 11 Xbox 360 consoles are sold, the graphic said. Additionally, over 950 purchases are made on eBay and $219,000 in payments are made on PayPal.
